SUMMARY:Écritures sonores en ethnomusicologie

DESCRIPTION:<h2><strong><img src="images/vstoichita/Seminaire_2026_Prouteau-Molin.jpeg"

 -right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; float: left;" /></strong>Reflections on
podcast and sound documentary production practice</h2><p><strong>Fredrik Mo
lin &amp; Pierre Prouteau</strong></p><p>Over the past 5 years, we have pro
duced two sound documentaries for academic projects and currently have one
commissioned for ARTE Radio. We come to this practice from complementary ba
ckgrounds: Pierre from research on Southeast Asian music, Fredrik from work
ing with diasporic sound archives — most recently as Station Manager of SOA
S Radio and through the EU-funded project DeCoSEAS (<em>Decolonizing Southe
ast Asian Sound Archives</em>). Our first project together was <em>DeCoSEAS
Podcast</em> (English, 2023), on a week-long gathering of researchers, arc
hivists and activists decolonizing Southeast Asian sound archives. The seco
nd, <em>Sangkran magique</em> (French, 2025, INALCO), examined the omnipres
ence of 1960s music in contemporary Cambodia. The third, <em>“untitled”</em
 > (French, forthcoming 2026, co-produced with ARTE Radio), is in post-produ
ction and continues the Cambodian thread started in <em>Sangkran magique</e
m>.</p><p>Why make podcasts? What have we learnt from our projects and coll
aborations? We will present our work and methodologies and how we think abo
ut sound documentary as an alternative to text-based scholarly production.
Sound documentaries are an epistemological tool, as they can help us rethin
k sound recordings in academia and in the discipline of ethnomusicology; as
well as an experimental tool of creation and writing for researchers (so-c
alled "research in sound" and other "sound essays"). We will share excerpts
from the work in progress and open a conversation on collaborative sound d
ocumentary practice and the editorial demands of public broadcasting.</p><p

  <a href="fr/laboratoire/agenda/11089/l-art-de-s-emouvoir-ensemble-la-musiq
